Netherley Mystery Plays
First Showing: 09 June 2018
Mystery plays are amongst the earliest formally developed plays in Medieval Europe. The plays focused on the representation of stories from the bible, with suitable subjects such as the Creation, Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel as well as stories from the New Testament – all done in an entertaining knockabout fashion!
The Netherley Mystery Plays project continues this tradition with plays written and performed by local Faith Groups and the WEA Adult Drama Class from Valley Theatre.
As an added extra, the following weekend, the project will also feature modern interpretations of said Bible stories by local writers, putting a contemporary twist to the tales and setting them in the present time.
