Our Detached Youth Music Service

Young person engaging in detached youth music project

Taking Music to Where It's Needed Most

Not every young person can — or will — walk through our doors. That's why we go to them.

Our detached pop-up music studio brings professional music-making directly into the heart of communities where young people are, on their terms, in their space. We set up in areas identified as having high levels of antisocial behaviour — not to police or judge, but to connect, engage and offer something different.

What We Bring

We arrive with a fully equipped mobile studio and an open invitation. There are no sign-up forms, no waiting lists and no barriers to taking part. Young people can step up to an open mic and perform, or sit down with our team and start creating their own electronic beats from scratch — often for the very first time.

For many, it's the first time anyone has shown up in their space and offered them something genuinely for them.

Why It Works

Detached work is about meeting young people where they are — physically and emotionally. By going to them rather than expecting them to come to us, we reach the young people who are most disengaged, most at risk, and least likely to access traditional services. Music is the bridge. It's immediate, it's creative, and it speaks a language that needs no prior experience or qualification to understand.

A young person who starts by watching from a distance can quickly become someone who is composing, performing and collaborating — building confidence, skills and connection without ever feeling like they're in a programme.

The Bigger Picture

Our presence in these spaces matters beyond the music. We build trusted relationships with young people in areas where trust in services and authority is often low. We offer a consistent, friendly face — and a genuine alternative to the streets. Over time, many of the young people we meet through our detached work go on to engage with our wider programmes, finding a community and a creative outlet that stays with them.
